| When I start LEAP5 Classic I receive the error message "Unable to start LEAP5. Check program is not in use." followed by the message "Create process failed" even though LEAP5 Classic is not running. What should I do? |
L001 |
There are two possible causes of this error message. The first is
that LEAP5 Classic is running in the background. To check whether the
program is running in the background press the Ctrl-Alt-Del key
combination to open the "Close Program" dialog box. Windows NT/2000
users will need to select Task Manager from dialog box that appears when
Ctrl-Alt-Del are pressed and then select the "Processes" tab. Check to see
if "leap5" is listed. If it is the program is still running. Select the
program and click on the "End Task"/"End Process" button to close it down.
Now try to run LEAP5 Classic.
The second cause is that the PC does not have the environment variable
"L5ROOT" set on it. To check to see if L5ROOT is set, open a DOS/Command
Prompt window and type the command "Set". This will list all the environment
variables. Check to see if L5ROOT is listed and that it points to the folder
where LEAP5 Classic is installed, for example C:\Program Files\SAM-LEAP5. If
the variable is not set or points to the wrong folder follow the steps below
to correct the problem.

Windows 9x users should edit their autoexec.bat file and look for the the entry
"SET L5ROOT=C:\Program Files\SAM-LEAP5" or similar. If this entry is not present
add it and set it to point to the folder where the software is installed. Windows
NT users should right click on the "My Computer" icon, select "Properties" from
the pop-up menu then select the "Environment" tab. Check that the L5ROOT variable
is listed and is pointing to the correct folder. Windows 2000 users should right
click on the "My Computer" icon, select "Properties" from the pop-up menu then select
the "Advanced" tab. Click on the "Environment variables" button and check that the
L5ROOT variable is listed and is pointing to the correct folder. make any changes
as necessary and reboot the PC to resolve the problem.

| When I select the "Print Window" option on a LEAP5 Classic graphics window an error is displayed and the graphics window closes down. Why does this happen? |
L006 |
This problem occurs on some Windows NT PC's. If this problem occurs, you will not be able to use the "Print Window" option on the PC. You should use the "Plot Hardcopy" printing method instead. The "Plot Hardcopy" option produces scale plots of a much higher quality than the "Print Window" option.
| How do I print graphics to a network printer? |
L007 |
To print graphics to a network printer you must first associate a printer port with the network printer you want to use.
To do this open a command prompt and enter the command "NET USE LPTx \\ServerName\PrinterName /PERSISTENT:YES" where x is a number from 1 to 9. Once the port has been captured, select the "Plot Hardcopy" option from the Files menu in the LEAP5 Classic graphics window and choose the printer that corresponds to the printer port you captured.

| When I try to plot a structure, the program gives the error "A program logic error has been detected. String storage overflow". How do I produce a plot of my structure? |

You need to apply an update to LEAP5 Classic to get it to work with the new format of Sam license file, issued with Sam 6.40c.
Download the FlexNet 11.9 update for LEAP5 Classic from our website and follow the instructions on that page to install the updated.
Alternatively, if Sam 6.40c is installed on the client PC, you can go to the C:\Program Files\Bestech\Sam6 folder, copy the file SAMLW32.dll and paste it into the C:\Program Files\Bestech\Leap5\Vali folder.
This needs to be done on each client PC that needs to run LEAP5 Classic.
