Pacific Motorway Package 1 was one of five major design packages for the 27 mile eight lane upgrade of the existing Pacific Highway. Package 1 consisted of 3 miles of eight lanes of motorway, service roads and three major interchanges. A total of 16 bridge structures where required for the works including a large span single cell post-tensioned box girder and a variety of "super-T" and "deck unit" concrete bridges.

SAM was used for the deck analysis and design for various "super-T" and "deck unit" type bridges on the Pacific Motorway Project.

The software was also used for section analysis of the post-tensioned box girder structure which included ultimate limit state checks of the box section, differential temperature analysis, analysis for section properties and torsion stiffness, design for local effects in the box girder slab, and design of the substructure columns in bi-axial bending.

According to Maunsell McIntyre associate director Peter Kouparitsas: "While we used the Pacific Motorway Project to cost justify our initial SAM license, the benefits have continued to be realized on our subsequent projects including South East Transit Project, and the current Brisbane Inner City Bypass."
